A new initiative aimed at ending loyalist picketing outside Harryville Catholic Church in Ballymena is under way, but it is too early to say if it will be successful, the SDLP's North Antrim representative, Mr Sean Farren, said yesterday.

Hopes were raised that the picketing would soon end after details emerged at the weekend of a compromise. This was said to involve a religious service by the Apprentice Boys in Dunloy. The Harryville picketing started more than a year ago after the order was prevented from marching through Dunloy.
