Dushanbe - Tajikistan's presidential guard fired heavy artillery yesterday to counter a southern warlord accused of attempting to enter the capital, Dushanbe, and mount a coup.

In a second day of fighting, presidential guards about 20 km south of Dushanbe fired rockets in artillery duels against forces of Mr Makhmud Khudoberdiyev. - (AFP)
