A couple of hundred hardy Christmas Day swimmers have braved icy waters to raise money for charity.

A couple of hundred hardy Christmas Day swimmers have braved icy waters to raise money for charity.

The biggest event was at Dublin's Forty Foot bathing area near Dun Laoighre where dippers donned fancy dress costumes before plunging into the sea.

Other charity swims took place in, Lahinch, Co Clare; Salthill, Co Galway; Ballybunion, Co Kerry and Tramore, Co Waterford.
