Suspicion of press surveyed

Paris - A large majority of the French, and especially the younger generation, is deeply suspicious of investigative journalism and thinks newspapers should not publish secret documents, according to a new survey. The Paris daily, Le Monde, said yesterday the survey showed more than three-quarters of those surveyed said it was "abnormal" for the press to publish names of suspects in legal cases or divulge confidential information it receives. Eighty-four per cent of the 1,005 people surveyed thought journalists did not take enough time to verify information.
