A man caught dealing in heroin has been told he will get a suspended prison sentence if he stays off drugs. Danny McCarthy (25) was found with 12 deals of heroin worth £100 after he was arrested in Dolphin's Barn on December 9th, Dublin District Court was told.

McCarthy, originally from Rathfarnham, of Aughavanagh Road, Crumlin, had been selling drugs to feed his habit but has since taken up treatment, his solicitor, Ms Anne O'Connell, said. He came from a respectable background.

Garda Frank O'Neill said McCarthy had only one previous convictions for a road traffic offence.

Judge Michael Patwell said he intended to impose a six-month suspended sentence if the defendant stayed out of trouble and drug-free until September. He adjourned the case to May 13th for a probation report.
