The army bomb disposal team was called to a house in Clondalkin last night after a suspect device was found in the driveway.
The owner of the house found the device shortly before 11pm.
Following an examination of the device, the army took it to Kilbride military base, and further tests will be carried out this morning.
An investigations is ongoing.
