More than 200 residents of a Co Offaly village packed into the local community centre this week to campaign against the temporary closure of their sub post office which they fear will become permanent.

The office in Mountbolus, nine miles south of Tullamore, was run by Mr John Flanagan until December 31st.

He finally retired after a series of robberies and attempted break ins and An Post has closed the office pending a review.
