London - A teacher who suffered a nervous breakdown because of stress caused by disciplinary problems among pupils at his school has been awarded £300,000 in compensation.

The out-of-court settlement was made after the 45-year-old man's union, the National Union of Teachers, accepted a payment into court by the insurers of the governors of his school and Shropshire County Council. The man taught children with emotional and behavioural problems.
