Special Olympics torch run to end

A special torch taken around Ireland in support of the country's Special Olympics athletes will complete its tour in Dublin today…

A special torch taken around Ireland in support of the country's Special Olympics athletes will complete its tour in Dublin today.

Athletes who have carried the torch will arrive at the Garda Sports Centre in Westmanstown accompanied by the Garda Mounted Unit.

The torch will be passed to officers from An Garda Síochána and the PSNI and President Mary McAleese.

The 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games will take place in Shanghai, China from October 2nd to 11th, 2007.

Over 7,000 athletes, including 143 from Ireland, will compete in 23 different sports over the nine days.
