A Spanish trawler captain was yesterday convicted in the Kinsale District Court of breaking fishery regulations.

A Spanish trawler captain was yesterday convicted in the Kinsale District Court of breaking fishery regulations.

Vincente Otero Martinez, from Vigo, entered a signed plea of guilty to under recording catches of hake in the log of his boat, the Cova de Balea.

It was arrested by the LE Aoife 65 miles off the Blasket Islands on Tuesday.

Martinez was returned for sentencing to Cork Circuit Criminal Court on March 19th. He was released on his own bail of £100. State Solicitor Mr Malachy Boohig asked that a bond of £38,500 be lodged with the court before his boat was released.
