A bus collision in South Africa today has killed 17 people.

At least 45 others were injured in the northern Limpopo province after one bus swerved to avoid a donkey in the road.

"The donkey was just passing by. Animals roam around here," said Limpopo Police Superintendent Mohale Ramatseba.

An investigation is unlikely to result in charges as both bus drivers died in the crash.

South Africa is one of the world's most dangerous places to drive despite its vast network of paved and sign-posted roads.
