Sydney - A truce between warring factions in the Solomon Islands conflict was holding yesterday ahead of the arrival today of a Commonwealth mission seeking a formula to avert civil war.

The delegation, to be led by Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer, is also scheduled to visit Fiji, where gunmen have been holding the prime minister hostage since May 19th.
