A solicitor who pleaded guilty to fraud on an insurance company was given a 12-month suspended sentence by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Donal O hUadhaigh, of Carysfort Avenue, Blackrock, Co Dublin, pleaded guilty to four counts of obtaining various sums of money by false pretences.

O hUadhaigh, who the court heard ran a thriving legal practice in Raheny village, obtained the money amounting in total to £150 in the course of personal injury claims.

He claimed the money by false pretences from Eagle Star insurance company and Arenson Enterprises on dates between April 1st and September 30th, 1992.

Judge Elizabeth Dunne said that she had heard "character evidence from what can only be termed as the most impeccable of people". Bearing in mind his testimonies of good character and his guilty plea she imposed a suspended sentence.
