A collision between an army vehicle and a civilian truck on the N55 this afternoon resulted in 14 soldiers being taken to hospital.

The collision happened shortly before 4pm when the army transport vehicle collided with a truck outside Granard, Co Longford.

None of the soliders are believed to be in a serious condition.

A garda spokesman said the road would be re-opened to traffic later this evening.
