BONN - The German Defence Minister, Mr Volker Ruhe, has decided to dismiss soldiers accused of beating up three foreigners in a racist attack last week, an army spokesman said yesterday.

Police arrested nine men after masked soldiers in uniform and helmets went on the rampage last Monday, but three were released later. Some 800 people protested against racist attacks on Saturday in Detmold, where the attack took place.
