TOKYO - Japanese sailor Kenichi Horie yesterday completed the world's first trans Pacific voyage in a solar-powered boat, sailing into Tokyo Bay four and a half months after leaving the Ecuadorian port of Salinas.

The 379-kilogram (834-pound) vessel, Malts Mermaid, is made from recycled aluminium, equivalent to more than 20,000 drink cans. The solar cells power the ship's motors.
