The first sod on the site of a £15.5 million biomedical engineering science centre at NUI Galway was turned yesterday by the Minister of State for Science and Technology, Mr Noel Treacy.
The centre will combine the expertise of engineers, medical graduates and scientists and the initial research programme covering 21 projects has already begun.
