Salthill Devon soccer club has applied to Galway Corporation for permission to build on its six-acre site at Miller's Lane, Rahoon, even though the site was zoned for amenity use in the latest city development plan.
If successful, the application would require a material contravention of the plan and could bring the value of the property up to almost £2.5 million.
