Bratislava - Slovaks began voting yesterday in a two-day general election which analysts say will determine the future of democratic and economic reform in the country for years to come.

The latest opinion polls, conducted in early September, give the combined opposition a big lead over the Prime Minister, Mr Vladimir Meciar's three-party, populist-nationalist government.
