Six people were killed in road accidents at the weekend, bringing the number of road deaths this year to 218, compared with 214 for the same period last year.

The woman who died in a two-car collision at Turin, Kilnaleck, Co Cavan, on Friday was Ms Mary Bracken (46), of the Glebe, Killoe, Co Longford. In Dublin, Ms Patricia Kinsella (62), of Redmond Rise, Kilnamanagh, died when she was struck by a lorry on the Greenhills Road, Tallaght, on Friday afternoon. In Co Wicklow, Ms Lynn Mitchell, who was in her late teens, died in a two-car collision at Leabeg, Newcastle, at 2.10 a.m. on Saturday.

Last night the Garda had not named a man in his 30s who died in a single-vehicle accident at Rehins, Derrycoosh, Castlebar, Co Mayo, at 11 p.m. on Sunday. In Co Wexford, a man in his 20s died in a single-car accident at Kylenoe, Ballyann, New Ross, at 7.35 p.m. on Sunday evening. He has not been named. In Co Laois, a male passenger died in a traffic accident yesterday morning at Killmalague, Portarlington. In Co Meath, a man died yesterday morning when he became trapped in a baling machine at Kentstown, Navan.
