Police in Northern Ireland are investigating a violent clash in County Antrim early this morning which left six people injured.

Officers were called out to the Ballinderry Road in Lisburn at 1.40am where they broke up a crowd of about 40 people.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said six people had to be treated in hospital for their injuries.

"One man had serious injuries to his face and legs," said a spokeswoman.

The PSNI are investigating the circumstances surrounding the disturbance and have appealed to anyone who was in the area at the time or who has information to contact them.
