SIPTU is to stage a protest outside the offices of Tom Parlon, the Minister responsible for the Government's decentralisation programme next week.

The protest, which is to take place on Wednesday, is part of SIPTU's ongoing campaign to remove all non-commercial State agencies from the programme.

SIPTU's National Industrial secretary, Michael Halpenny said the current dispute in FAS and problems emerging in Enterprise Ireland and in the Combat Poverty Agency over the linking of decentralisation with a voluntary early retirement package, demonstrated the need to remain vigilant.

"With less than a year to go to the next general election, we must continue to raise this issue in every way possible," said Mr Halpenny.
