An incident in which shots were fired at gardaí in Clondalkin early this morning has been condemned as “deplorable” by the Garda Commissioner Fachtna Murphy.

Gardaí were investigating reports of damage to a house on Greenfort Close in Clondalkin shortly after 1am when a number of shots were discharged in the direction of a neighbouring house where three gardai were speaking to a local resident.

A bullet pierced the front door of the house and one of the Gardaí received minor injuries.

"I want to condemn this deplorable attack which put the lives of Gardaí and members of the public at risk,” the Garda Commissioner said

“I have directed that the local Gardaí in Ronanstown who are investigating the incident receive whatever assistance and support their require from national units in order to bring those responsible to justice," he added.
