London - Britain's International Development Secretary, Ms Clare Short, yesterday said she had "no recollection" of meeting a man who claims to have spied on her for the British army during the mid-1980s over her alleged Irish republican sympathies.

A man known as "Cahal" said he had been recruited by a unit linked to the British Army Secret Intelligence Wing to spy on Ms Short after meeting her in 1984 around the time of the Labour Party conference, the Sunday Times said. The man was a member of Sinn Fein and the IRA as well as being an army spy, the paper reported.
