Shell oil leak in North Sea slows

Royal Dutch Shell said this evening it had “significantly” slowed an oil leak from a platform in the North Sea.

The company is working to isolate the leak off the coast of Aberdeen , a company spokesman, said.

Shell deployed a remote-operated vehicle after a light sheen was discovered and is managing a leak in one of its flow line.

Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond said he was pleased with the way the operation to stem the flow is going.

Around one- hundred tons of oil, the equivalent to about 730 barrels, are thought to have escaped already.
