Shell made safe in Wexford

A second World War shell has been removed from a shed at the back of a house in Wexford and made safe.

A second World War shell has been removed from a shed at the back of a house in Wexford and made safe.

Gardaí in Wexford called in the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team after the shell was discovered in the Faythe area of Wexford town at 12.30pm today.

The scene was declared safe at 4.30pm.

An exclusion area was put in place around the shed and residents in the immediate vicinity were evacuated as a precaution. Traffic restrictions were in place in the area for a short time.

The location where the shell was found is around 250m from the local polling station at Faythe National school. However voting was able to continue without disruption.
