A high-risk sex offender who was detained by police in Co Derry yesterday after he breached the conditions of his probation order is to appear in court later this morning.

Robert Simpson Wallace (78) was arrested in Garvagh after warnings he posed a threat to vulnerable women and children.

Wallace had been missing since last Thursday - the second time he disappeared after breaching his probation order. Last August, he vanished from his approved accommodation in Belfast before being found in Lurgan, Co Armagh.

Wallace was spotted earlier yesterday in the Cookstown/Maghera area, not far from where he was later detained.

He was charged last night with failing to register a new address, contrary to the Sexual Offences Act, and will appear at Belfast Magistrates' Court tomorrow morning.
