A woman front-seat passenger in a car involved in a two-car collision Virginia, Co Cavan, at about 6.30 p.m. yesterday, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A woman pedestrian in her fifties died in hospital after she was struck by a car at Moyvalley, Co Kildare, yesterday afternoon.

A pedestrian died after being struck by a car at Roscrea Road, Birr, Co Offaly, early yesterday. He was later named as Mr Niall Burke (21), of Sharanogue, Birr.

In the North, Mr Arthur Damien McEvoy (35), of Harberton Park, Banbridge, Co Down, died and four people were injured following a two-car collision on the outskirts of the town early yesterday.

Another man died in Daisy Hill Hospital, Newry, after the car in which he was travelling struck a wall at Omeath, Co Louth. A man was arrested and charged with road traffic offences after the accident and gardai are seeking witnesses to it.

In Dublin, Mr Glen O'Neill (18), of Donard Road, Blackhorse Avenue, died in the Mater Hospital on Saturday evening after his motorcycle crashed into an ESB pole at Blackhorse Avenue.

Also on Saturday, Mr Pat Burke (69), of Manort, Enniscorthy, Co Wexford, died when his car plunged into the River Slaney.
