Kayes, Mali - Seven children died during a stampede sparked when the horror movie they were watching suddenly stopped, plunging the cinema into darkness, police said yesterday.
Police said hundreds of children aged six to 12 were watching a film called A Two-headed Man in a cinema in Kayes, western Mali on Saturday evening when the projector suddenly stopped.
One child apparently started screaming in the darkness and a stampede ensued, police said.
