Seven held over Sligo man's murder

Gardaí have arrested a total of seven people in connection with the murder of a man in Sligo last August.

Gardaí have arrested a total of seven people in connection with the murder of a man in Sligo last August.

Tom Ward (23) from Cranmore, died after being hit with an axe as he sat in a van outside his parents' home.

Mr Ward was married and had a two-year-old daughter.

An axe and a number of balaclavas were recovered from an abandoned car four miles from the scene of the murder.

The seven people are being held at Garda stations in Sligo, Carrick-on-Shannon and Castlebar and Manorhamilton.

They are all being held under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act and can be held for up to 72 hours.
