LONDON - The soccer star, Hans Segers, yesterday told a court that he lied to police because he feared action by the Football Association and the taxman, and to cover up relationships with women involving a fellow player, John Fashanu, and himself.

The former Wimbledon goalkeeper, accused of being involved in a plot to fix matches, told Winchester Crown Court that most of the answers he grave police after his arrest were "absolute rubbish".
