NEW YORK The Security Council yesterday unanimously approved without debate a six month renewal, until July 31st, of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon.

The 4,650 member force was sent to southern Lebanon in 1978 to restore the Lebanese government's authority over the south of the country after an Israeli incursion against Palestinian guerrillas.

UNIFIL now comprises contingents from Ireland, Fiji, Finland, France, Ghana, Italy, Nepal Norway and Poland.
