Traffic diversions remain in place north and south of the Border after a security alert was declared in Newry, Co Down, last night. The Dublin to Belfast train line has also been affected.

The PSNI said a charity and a hospital received warning calls at about 11pm and that these prompted the alert.

A suspicious vehicle is still being examined on the A1 at Cloughoge.

The M1 Dublin to Belfast Rd has reopened both ways between J18 Ballymascanlon, north of Dundalk and the A1

The A1 remains closed from the M1 up to the Sheepbridge Interchange, north of Newry.
