The main Belfast to Dublin road and the main rail line have been closed in both directions because of a security alert.
The A1/M1 was closed between Dundalk and Newry with diversions in place. Bus transfers operating on the Irish Rail service to and from Belfast.
A PSNI spokeswoman said a suspicious object had been discovered on the railway line. The old Dublin road is open to traffic, she added.
