Second time lucky

FOLLOWING the election, political analysts have come up with the theory that losing a by-election is no bad thing - it means a candidate is likely to be elected at the next general election, thus winning a longer term. Witness, they say, the success of FF's Dick Roche, Billy Kelleher, John Dennehy and Beverley Cooper Flynn and Independents Harry Blaney and Joe Higgins on June 6th. All were by-election losers during the term of the 27th Dail. Sympathy - and endurance - seem to be the best election strategies of all.
