Gardaí have arrested a second man in relation to the fatal stabbing of a 24-year-old man in Kiltimagh, Co Mayo, at about midnight on Tuesday.

Frankie (Francis) Heneghan, Kinturk, Ballyheane, Castlebar, was found with knife wounds in a laneway at the rear of Main Street by patrolling gardaí. He died at the scene despite efforts by the gardaí to assist him.

A 23-year-old man was arrested this morning in Co Mayo and is being detained at Swinford Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Earlier, a man in his 20s was arrested last night under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. He is also being held at Swinford.

Gardaí believe several people were involved in the killing.

Shortly before the stabbing at about 11.45pm, gardaí were called to deal with a public order incident in which a number of young people were involved, at Main Street.
