An Israeli woman bought her elderly mother a new mattress on Monday and threw out the old one — only to discover that her mother had hidden her life savings inside.
When she went to look for the mattress, it had already been taken by binmen in Tel Aviv.
Dump manager Yitzhak Borba said his staff were helping the woman, saying she appeared “totally desperate”.
He said guards were keeping would-be treasure hunters at bay.
The unnamed woman said “people have to take everything in proportion” and that it could be worse.
