The search for a man reported missing in Ennis Co Clare yesterday has resumed

The man (31), who is believed to be from Poland, is reported to have fallen into the River Fergus last night.

A search and rescue operation began last night after the alarm was raised around 7.30 pm.

The search, which involved local units of the fire brigade and civil defence alongside the Shannon-based Irish Coastguard, was called off late in the evening.

In July, a four-year-old boy drowned after he fell into the same river near the Aughanterroe housing estate on the Gort Road in Ennis.
