New car registrations last month were double those of November 1996 because of the impending end of the scrappage scheme. In all, 6,797 new cars were sold, compared with 3,324 last year, writes Andrew Hamilton.
The last-minute rush to avail of the scheme has meant that registrations to date total 129,135, or 13 per cent up on the same 11-month period last year. With 16,360 cars, Ford accounts for 12.7 per cent of the market, ahead of Opel with 14,858 cars or 11.5 per cent.
