Two secondary school students were given a heroes welcome yesterday when they returned to class having won the EU Young Scientist contest in Paris last week, writes Olivia Kelleher.

Minister for Education and Science, Batt O’Keeffe, was in Cork to congratulate John D O’Callaghan and Liam McCarthy, who are both 14, for winning the prize.

The two third-year students from Kinsale Community School, Co Cork, won first prize at the contest.
