NEWPORT - The Tory defector and former junior education minister, Mr Alan Howarth, yesterday brushed off a challenge from the miners' leader, Mr Arthur Scargill, who is to stand against him in Newport East in South Wales. "I feel no cause for alarm at all," he said. Mr Scargill is to stand for the Socialist Labour Party, which he founded when Labour abolished its commitment to public ownership in Clause Four.
