A DELEGATION from Saudi Arabia has begun a tour of institutes of technology following a recent trade mission.

The delegation, led by Saudi Arabia’s Technical Vocational Training Corporation, came to Ireland to visit colleges already hosting Saudi Arabian students and to develop links with other colleges. More than 800 students from Saudi Arabia are already studying in Ireland, worth more than €20 million to the economy.

This week’s visit follows a trade mission last November by former minister for education Batt O’Keeffe with Enterprise Ireland and education providers.

Among the colleges visited yesterday was Blanchardstown Institute of Technology, which recently signed an agreement to bring Saudi students to study there.

The group also visited institutes of technology in Carlow, Cork, Dundalk, Athlone and Waterford, and met representatives from Sligo Institute of Technology.
