A new campaign aimed at encouraging young drivers to reduce their speed was launched this afternoon.

As part of the Garda-backed initiative, a specially recorded charity CD single is to be released which has been recorded by Leanne Moore, winner of RTÉ's You're a Starprogramme.

The CD features a song entitled On Wingswhich was written by Jamie Bridgeman (17) shortly after the death of his two cousins Robin O'Riordan (15) and Leanne Miller (15) who died in a road crash on the outskirts of Galbally, Co Limerick as they were returning home from a teenage disco in July 2006.

The Corpus Christi Youth Development Group (CCYDG), a Garda youth diversion project based in Moyross, Limerick, offered financial backing for the single.

Proceeds from the sale of the CD will be given to the charity ADD Mid West Support.
