Two Ryanair passengers were each handed four month suspended sentences today by a Spanish court for stealing three life-jackets from a Ryanair plane. They have also been banned from flying with the airline in future.

The two passengers, who have not been named, flew from Nottingham, East Midlands to Barcelona Girona on January 6 this year.

Peter Sherrard, Head of Communications at the airline, said he was pleased with decision.

"The safety of our aircraft, passengers and crew is Ryanair's priority at all times and we welcome this decision which acts as a strong deterrent to the tiny minority of passengers who are guilty of stealing important safety equipment from aircraft," he said.
