Ryanair says passenger numbers grew by 53 per cent in the year to December.

The budget airline said today the number of passengers carried last month rose to 2.01 million from 1.31 million in December 2002 while the load factor - the proportion of seats filled - slipped to 83 per cent of capacity from 85 per cent a year earlier.
