Grozny - Russian soldiers stationed outside Grozny yesterday confirmed they had suffered casualties during a battle on Thursday.

A senior Chechen spokesman, Mr Movladi Udugov, said earlier that 14 Russian troops were killed. The Kremlin dismissed the report. However, Interior Ministry troops confirmed that a battle had erupted near Khankala on Thursday and several Russian troops had been killed.
