MOSCOW - Seven Russians who made a dramatic escape from Islamic fighters in Afghanistan after being held for more than a year yesterday received top honours from the Prime Minister, Mr Viktor Chernomyrdin.

The commander of the crew of the Ilyushin 76 which was brought down by a fighter plane in 1995 and his co pilot were made Heroes of Russia, while their five crew members were decorated with the Order of Courage.
