Moscow - The Russian Foreign Minister, Mr Igor Ivanov, said yesterday that Moscow had sent a formal request to Washington that the US immediately release a tanker it had seized in the Gulf under suspicion it smuggled Iraqi oil.
Interfax news agency quoted Mr Ivanov as saying he understood the need to enforce sanctions against Iraq, but that this did not justify holding the tanker for an extended time.
