LONDON - The fatwa on the author Salman Rushdie remains active, the leader of Britain's Muslim Parliament said last night. The sentence of death pronounced by the former Iranian leader, Ayatollah Khomeini, seven years ago during the furore over The Satanic Verses "was and remains an order that must be carried out as and when it becomes possible to do so", Dr Kalim Siddiqui said.
