RUC officers could be required to register if they are members of Orange Lodges or other loyalist organisations under plans being drawn up by the Chief Constable, Mr Ronnie Flanagan, it was disclosed yesterday.
The move follows the announcement by the British Home Secretary, Mr Jack Straw, that he is setting up a register of police officers and others in the criminal justice system in England and Wales who are freemasons.
